Who is Packwoman?
My name is Jessica Pack and I teach 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies at a middle school in Cathedral City, CA. Currently, I teach in a 1:1 Chromebook environment supplemented with iPads. I was named 2015 CUE Outstanding Teacher, 2014 California Teacher of the Year, and 2014 Riverside County Teacher of the Year. For several years on Sunday evenings at 8pm, you could find me on Twitter as a co-founder and co-moderator of #caedchat. Now, I am pursuing a graduate degree in Educational Technology through Boise State University. I'm also pursuing my interest in gamification, specifically the use of Minecraft: Education Edition in the classroom.
I have several books available for download on iTunes, including "Digital Storytelling: Connecting Standards to Movie-Making."
Currently, I live in Banning with my husband, Brandon, who is an elementary Special Education teacher. Together we have two obnoxious cats we adore and a plethora of mobile devices.
From Laptops to iPads to Student BYOD & Chromebooks
Having taught in the same classroom at the same school for the last 13 years, you’d think that it would be easy to fall into a rut – not true!
The constantly changing face of educational technology has made my classroom a work in progress. From teaching a (24/7) 1:1 Laptop Program, to piloting 2:1 iPads, a student BYOD Program, and a 1:1 Chromebook environment! The learning process and the tech my students and I use is in a constant state of evolution. My tech journey began with digital story-telling, gained strength with the advent of mobile devices, and now I’m on a quest to find the perfect balance of technology and pedagogy through the gamification of my curriculum. Digital Storytelling is also still my passion, as is enfranchising student voices.
